VAMPIRE CRUSH BY A.M. ROBINSON

Synopsis
I swear, my life was always totally normal.
Normal house, normal family, normal school. My looks are average, I don't have any superpowers, no one's showing up to tell me I'm a princess—you get the picture. But when my junior year started, something not normal happened. There were new kids at school . . . new kids with a wardrobe straight out of a 19th-century romance novel, and an inexplicable desire to stay at school until sundown.

And on top of that, James Hallowell showed up. James, who stole my sandwiches in fourth grade and teased me mercilessly through middle school. James, who now seems to have the power to make my heart race any time he comes near.
But something weird is going on. Because James rarely goes out during the day. And he seems stronger than your typical guy. And he knows the new kids, all of whom seem to be harboring some kind of deep secret...

Summary:
Sophie is an ambitious teenager who wants to become the editor of her high school newspaper. Not really popular, rather lonely, she sees her life change with the return of her childhood friend and neighbor: James. Except that the teasing kid is now a very handsome young man super hot which made her heart beat faster. Unfortunately, it does not go outside often and seems to have many secrets. Also his return coincided with the arrival of a new group of strange students. It was enough for Sophie goes hunting to scoop even if curiosity killed the cat!

Reactions:
Many nods to the series or books appear in this novel full of humor. First of all, a tribute to Stephanie Meyers saga: a school close to a forest, a clan of vampires that can not come to school unnotice. The best part was to imagine vampire as a bunch of cosplay characters with sharp teeth. Almost as if the author was making fun of her subject nicely.
The reader can spot some scenes from "Dawson" like the one with the secret code used by James and Sophie to communicate, or the fact that the two teenagers sneak, sneak into each other the room through the balcony.
But it is the quality of the replicas brittle Carolina or teasing exchanges between Sophie and James who can not stop the reader from smiling. As dogs and cats, they are accomplices to have common childhood memories and to be the first crush of each other. Their story is fun, cute and unexpectedly moving.
"Vampire Crush" is taking, fresh and entertaining. Perfect after a day of work to decompress.

Sentences

In reality our relationship consisted of hair pulling (age six), doll vandalism (age eight), and relentless teasing about my freckles (age eleven).

The only boy who’s ever been in my room is James. (When we were nine and played doctor, I tried to give him an appendectomy with a plastic fork. He chickened out mid-surgery.)

From James: “What bothers you more?” he asks, leaning forward. “The fact that I’m a vampire or the fact that you have me here, sitting in your bedroom, after midnight?

From James: « You can’t kick me more than I’ve kicked myself. »

From James: “Do you know that all the blood in your body just rushed to your cheeks?” he asks. “They’re glowing.”

VAMPIRE CRUSH
BY A.M. ROBINSON
