Reactions:
This book made ​​me smile, frown and sit up in my seat to lose nothing of the action.
For me, there are three distinct parts in this story. The first, pretty cute and fun about the arrival of a new student to a new school, a new city, a new country.


I enjoyed that the story takes place in Ireland, the richest country full of legends, prone to supernatural tales. We find ourselves in a story more "organic" that the stories of vampires and werewolves in vogue since "Twilight." The reader learns about the power of the 4 elements: earth, air, water and fire. The author leads us to the Druids, magic and spirits. I've loved the super cute crow too! All based on the wonderfully magical atmosphere that Ireland gives off. Good choice to put the luggage of a teenage girl and a globe-trotting father and start a story!
The relationship between Megan and her father are also, charming, humorous and full of respect. Leigh Fallon captures perfectly the atmosphere of this father / daughter duo, even if sometimes the paternal reactions are more fiction than reality. But their complicity is touching. I smiled in the "sex talk" scene... Megan is approached by a father who is embarrassed and caught at his own game by his daughter. It was fun to read!

The second part comes when the light is shed on the distinctive characteristics of the DeRis' Family. To be honest, I was a bit lost in all the explanations. I have almost lost the smile to start frowning. Sometimes, I was back twice to the same line to keep track of the history of "the Carrer of the Mark." Fortunately, the author still managed to catch me, through personal revelations about the past of the characters, as Fionn and Rian.

The third section is reserved to action. It goes crescendo. First with the pressure of Megan's evocation, then with feeling of being followed, monitored and at least, the final scene on the boat.
Without exposing to much of the story, it is fair to say that the reader as soon as he discovers Megan's powers, he expects that she will make full use of them. Nothing too flashy! it is precisely what makes the story credible. Megan is powerful, like Storm in "X-Men", but in the tradition of demonstrations made by Rian, Aine or Adam. Although Adam shows off more of his magical abilities then the others in this volume. And then, just as in "Smallville," the heros have to give plausible explanations to theirs friends, even if they have to lie to not arouse suspicion ...Last but not least, the love relationship between Adam and Megan. It's a cute story but it is true that there was similarities with the couple Bella / Edward...
Their eyes meet and they can not resisit each other: the other is such a drug...
As Edouard, Adam tries to resist but failed to stay away from Megan. Then, he feels guilty to put her in danger. Finally, their love could lead to the end of the world if a solution is not found. I just hope that Adam does not feel the need to go into exile in the next volume...
But again, during the reading, the charm is working. I read this novel with pleasure and the ingredients, although some already known, made ​​me spend a great time. The recipe was simple and effective. I would wait impatiently for the release of volume 2 in 2013 to follow the adventures of these four elements.

Impressions:
Ce livre m'a fait sourire, froncer les sourcils et me redresser sur mon siège pour ne rien perdre de l'action.
Pour moi, il y a trois parties bien distinctes dans ce livre. La première assez mignonne, plutôt amusante sur l'arrivée d'une nouvelle élève d'un un nouveau lycée, une nouvelle ville, un nouveau pays.
J'ai apprécié que l'histoire se passe en Irlande dans un pays riche en légendes, propices aux surnaturels. On se retrouve dans un récit plus « bio » que les histoires de vampires et werewolves très en vogue depuis « Twilight ». On part sur les éléments la terre, l'air, l'eau et le feu. L'auteur nous dirige vers les druides, la magie, les esprits et avec un corbeau super craquant en prime ! Le tout se fondant à merveille dans l'atmosphère féerique que dégage l'Irlande. Choix judicieux pour poser les valises d'une adolescente et d'un père globe-trotter.
Les relations entre Megan et son père sont, elles aussi, charmantes, pleines d'humour et de respect. Leigh Fallon a su capturer parfaitement l'atmosphère de ce duo père/fille, même si parfois les réactions paternelle relèvent plus de la fiction que de la réalité. Mais leur complicité est touchante. J'ai souris lors de discussion sur le sexe abordé par un père gêné et qui se fait prendre à son propre jeu par sa fille. C'était rigolo!

La deuxième partie arrive une fois que la lumière est faite sur les spécificités et particularités de la Famille DeRis. Je me suis un peu perdue dans toutes les explications. J'y ai presque perdu le sourire pour commencer à froncer les sourcils. Parfois, je me suis reprise à deux fois pour garder le fil sur l'histoire des "Les Porteurs de la marque" Heureusement, l'auteur est toujours parvenu à me rattraper, grâce à des révélations personnelles sur le passé des personnages, comme Fionn ou Rian.

La troisième partie étant réservée, elle, a l'action. Cela monte crescendo. D'abord avec la pression de l'évocation pour Megan, l'impression d'être suivit et surveillée puis la scène finale sur le bateau. Sans trop en dévoiler, c'est légitime de dire que le lecteur, à la découverte des pouvoirs de Mégane, s'attend a ce qu'elle en fasse pleinement usage. Rien de grandiose, c'est justement ce qui rend le récit crédible. Megan apparaît puissante, un peu comme Tornade dans les « X-Men », mais dans la lignée des démonstrations faites par Rian, Aine ou Adam. Bien que ce dernier reste celui dont on suit le plus grand nombre de manifestations magiques. Et puis, un peu comme dans « Smallville », on donne des explications plausibles à l'entourage amicale pour ne pas éveiller les soupçons...

Dernier point et le plus important, la relation amoureuse entre Adam et Megan. Il est vrai que j'y ai vu des similitudes avec le couple Bella/Edouard. Leurs yeux se croisent et ils ne peuvent se passer l'un de l'autre, telle une drogue...Adam, tente de résister mais échoue à rester éloigner de Megan. Puis, il s'en veut de l'avoir mis en danger. Finalement, leur amour pourrait mener à la fin du monde si une solution n'est pas trouvée. J'espère juste qu'Adam ne va pas éprouver le besoin de s'exiler dans le prochain tome...
Mais encore une fois, durant la lecture, le charme agit. On fond pour les deux tourteaux et l'injustice des choix qu'ils vont avoir à affronter.
J'ai lu ce roman avec plaisir et les ingrédients présentés, même si parfois déjà connus, m'ont fait passer un très bon moment. La recette a été simple et efficace. J'attendrais avec impatience 2013 pour la sortie de la suite des aventures de ces quatre éléments.
